Hi,

Yes it is all right to fertilize your lawn with the commonly available fertilizers after top dressing. This will help bring your lawn back to life after the winter.

Great idea to add compost to your sand loam peat mixture. One thing you want to watch out for is compost can be high in nitrogen. If you get a commercial fertilizer that is high in nitrogen this can burn your lawn.

You might want to try a general fertilizer with lower nitrogen. You can see this on the bag with the numbers. The first number is for Nitrogen, the second is Phosphorous, the third is Potassium (or Potash).

You might try something with 15-15-15 instead of 24-12-12. When you go and purchase your fertilizer you might want to ask the salesman what the best fertilizer is for your situation.

They will know what the best fertilizer is.

I hope this helps

Is it alright to fertilize the lawn with the commonly available fertilizers (like the Scotts Turf Builder) after top dressing? And is it worthwhile to add compost to the sand-loam-peat mixture for top dressing?

Thanks
